Today, on August 28, new Syrian airstrikes near a Turkish military base in northwestern Syria at the village of Sher Maghar on the borders of the province of Hama and Idlib where the Army, supported by Russia, has also unleashed a fierce offensive against the rebels.
On Tuesday 27 August, President Vladimir Putin declared that Russia and Turkey have agreed on strategies to fight the militants in Damascus and "normalize" the situation, but the discussions between Moscow, key ally of Assad and Ankara, which supports some subversive factions, failed to end the fighting.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, supported by the Russian Air Force, had gained ground against the insurgents this month to the north-west of the Arab Republic, the last major anti-government stronghold.
