China: a new airport on an artificial Island
It will be near Hainan
According to "Tass" the local administration of Sanya (a city located at the southern end of the island of Hainan, China) would plan to build a second airport after the one named Sanya-Phoenix, on a platform artificial. The area should have the shape of a rounded rectangle, it will be located 4 km from the coast and 27 km from the city center. Its surface will reach 15.75 million square meters and the time of its construction should last five years. The artificial island and Hainan will be connected by 6 km long roads and railways.
Sanya-Phoenix Airport, located 15 km from the city, is currently considered the main one. It was opened in 1994. The length of its runway is 3.4 km. Over 20 million passengers used its air services in 2018.
