South Africa, citizens will choose the name of new carrier
The idea is to take a cue from Uber
No one will know my name: unlike in "Turandot" by Giacomo Puccini, the name of new carrier of South Africa must be revealed quickly and for this reason it was decided to entrust to the city. In the last few hours Gidon Novick, founder of the low-cost company Kulula, announced the launch of this new airline no later than next December, inviting South Africans to squeeze their brains and give free rein to their imagination. The only indications in this sense were two: the name must be simple to pronounce and above all to remember.
There is also a website that can be accessed to indicate preference; the person who is the winner will be officially announced over the next two weeks and will have the opportunity to take advantage of a free one-year travel pass. Meanwhile, negotiations are continuing to save South African Airlines, a bankrupt national airline that is unable to recover despite state aid (read also the article published by AVIONEWS). Novick's goal is to create a carrier with 180-seat aircraft, in particular B-737 and A-320. The inspiration relating to the operation will be that of Uber and we will make use of the partnership with Global Aviation.
