EU, other 6 months for State aid: situation of air transport
The deadline is set for June 30, 2021
Other six months, then we'll see: the last-minute decision of the European Union on State aid could be summed up with these few simplistic words. Margrethe Vestager, number two of the EU Commission with responsibility for competition, spoke about it during an interview with “La Stampa”. It is now official, another 180 days will be granted for these loans, even if Vestager intends to ask the governments of the "old continent" how they will be spent and how the money has been spent. The deadline is outlined, aid will be possible until June 30, 2021, to be precise with regard to companies that have recorded heavy losses in turnover. Brussels considers the losses of at least 30 percentage points in 2020 to be significant compared to exactly one year ago; in the interview it also emerged that this financial support refers to amounts not exceeding 3 million euros for each individual company.
There was an inevitable reference to Alitalia: according to the vice president, the 3 billion loan granted to the carrier after the formalization of the decree is being evaluated, with the only clarification that Newco is not required to repay aid in case of "discontinuity" with respect to the old company. In the coming weeks, irline's industrial plan and the decisions related to this extension will be known.
