United Arab Emirates purchase 80 Rafale military aircraft

Deliveries will begin in 2026 and last until 2030

The Government of the United Arab Emirates has purchased 80 Dassault Rafale F4 military aircraft. The contract, signed between Paris and Abu Dhabi, worth more than 16 billion Euros and also includes the purchase of armaments, such as Mica NG air-to-air missiles and Black Shaheen cruise missiles, both developed by the European company Mbda. The agreement was signed in recent days by French President Emmanuel Macron -visiting the Gulf country- and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. Deliveries will begin in 2026 and last until 2030.

This is a record-breaking order (14 billion Euroes for warplanes and 2 billion Euroes for weapons), simply the largest arms contract ever signed by France during the Fifth Republic, that is since 1958. For comparison, just think that French arms exports in 2015 were 16.9 billion Eeuros, a figure that was reached in 2021 with this latest order alone. This year, in fact, the value of Dassault's Rafale aircraft sales have reached a record 28 billion Euros.

This order, according to French media reports, will keep the 400 companies that make up the Rafale production chain busy until 2031. Now the French manufacturer will have to increase the production rate of this type of aircraft to ensure deliveries to France, Egypt and the UAE within the deadlines.
