Dozens of disruptions and canceled flights daily, airport among worst in UK

There is no peace for one of Europe's major airports. Yesterday at London-Heathrow Airport 61 flight connections, operated by the airlines British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Air France were canceled. It was announced by a short notice at the beginning of monday, informing passengers about potential inconveniences resulting from the cancellation of some flights during the day. An decision made to avoid overcrowding and chaos at the airport. 

"Despite our efforts, there have been unacceptable levels of service in recent weeks, with long wait times, delays for travelers with reduced mobility, luggage not travelling with passengers or arriving late. Punctuality is still very low. We started recruiting staff in November and also reopened Terminal 4 to provide more space for passengers. We apologize to all passengers", an airport spokesman explained to the British newspaper "The Express". 

The spokesperson said the volume of passengers expected in T3 and T5 yesterday was much higher than the airport's capacity to accommodate them. Therefore, in order to safely continue boarding and disembarking operations, the operator asked some companies operating in Terminals 3 and 5 to cancel some flights. 

Meanwhile, London-Heathrow Airport ranks among the top UK airports with the most delays. This is according to monitoring by Britain's Civil Aviation Authority (Caa). An unenviable ranking that already in 2021 saw the Birmingham terminal in first place, followed by Southampton, in third place Heathrow, followed by Exeter and Aberdeen.
