ITA Airways: sale of airline tickets on Lufthansa website

Booking system sharing is a sign that something has moved

The negotiation between the Lufthansa aviation group and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Mef), which is managing the privatization procedure of the tricolor air carrier ITA Airways, may have reached a turning point. According to international media reports, the Italian company's airline tickets are now on sale on the German airline's website.

The significance of this move suggests at least increased cooperation between the German and Italian flag carriers. This initiative concerns some connections involving routes with destinations to Italian airports. Sharing the booking system is a sign that something has moved.

Of course, the ability to book flights on another airline's website is nothing new. Codeshare agreements provide for just that. However, the singularity lies in the fact that ITA Airways is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, while Lufthansa is part of the Star Alliance. This agreement stands out particularly because the German company has yet to formally announce any partnership with the Italian airline.
