Putin-Kim Jong-un meeting

The North Korean leader's train arrived in Russia: there is talk of weapons and food aid

North Korean leader Kim Jong- un arrived in Russia today. With him, on board an armored train departing from Pyongyang, were senior army officers and party and government officials. The aim of the trip is to meet President Vladimir Putin face to face. According to international affairs experts, the discussion should focus on the supply of armaments to Moscow for the war in Ukraine, in exchange for food aid and military technology.

According to rumors, the meeting could take place in Vladivostok, the city closest to the border between North Korea and Russia, where the Eastern Economic Forum summit is taking place (from 10 to 13 September 2023). The Russian news agency "Interfax" reported that the bilateral meeting could be held tomorrow, 13 September. In fact, at the moment the Kremlin has not specified either the date or place of the meeting between Kim and Putin, but it is known that the Russian president arrived in Vladivostok yesterday.

Russian President Putin will most likely ask for shells and artillery, of which Pyongyang has plenty of deposits: there is talk of tens of millions of artillery shells and rockets based on Soviet designs. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov spoke of possible discussions on the "UN Security Council processes", with clear reference to the sanctions against Pyongyang, adopted in the past and also approved by Russia.
