Air strike ends in Germany

Pilot representatives ask for more protections for Discover Airlines (Lufthansa) workers

The air strike proclaimed in Germany over the week-end will end this afternoon, Monday 5 February. The 48-hour mobilization was called on Saturday 3rd by the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) pilots' union. The aim is to claim the rights of workers of the air carrier Discover Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and specialized in leisure travel.

The Discover company had announced that, despite the strike, it would carry out approximately 30% of the long-haul flights and 90% of the short and medium-haul ones scheduled to depart from Frankfurt airport. In total, therefore, 27 takeoffs from the airport are planned during the mobilization.

Among the connections that have been canceled in Frankfurt are those to the Spanish islands of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, as well as to Mexico and the United States. While 10 scheduled flights departing from Munich international airport will be operated by Lufthansa. The Vc pilots union calls for the application of a collective labor agreement.
