Expansion plan for Discover Airlines (Lufthansa): fleet to 40 aircraft by mid-2028
The leisure carrier will introduce four long-range A-350/900s from 2027

Discover Airlines, the leisure carrier of the Lufthansa Group, announced today a significant growth and fleet renewal plan that will see the total number of aircraft rise to 40 by mid-2028. The key element of this strategy is the introduction of the Airbus A-350/900, destined to become the future flagship of the long-haul fleet.
From mid-2027 the gradual integration of four Airbus A-350/900 aircraft is planned, a model considered among the most modern and efficient in the world for long-haul flights. Thanks to its efficiency (which entails significantly lower fuel consumption compared with previous models), low noise impact and greater cabin comfort, the type will initially be deployed on existing long-haul routes such as Windhoek, Namibia, or Orlando, Florida. Its long range, however, will open prospects for new tourist destinations not previously reachable, such as in South and Central America, southern Africa or Southeast Asia.
The expansion plan involves the entire fleet:
- Long haul: the long-haul fleet will be strengthened. By 2026, the Airbus A-330 fleet will grow to 16 A-330/300 planes (against the scheduled retirement of three A-330/200s and the entry into service of five A-330/300s). These will be joined by the four Airbus A-350/900s starting in 2027. In addition, from 2027 all A-330s will be fitted with next-generation cabins across all three travel classes.
- Short and medium haul: the Airbus A-320 fleet will grow from 16 to 20 airplanes by mid-2028, with the addition of two A-320s in 2026 and another two by mid-2028.
