Italy to send 1000 soldiers in Afghanistan by the end of 2002
Rome, Italy - If Parliament approves the move
An Italian 1000-man military contingent could be sent in Afghanistan by the end of 2002 to strenghten Italy's presence in war against terrorism. The Italian soldiers, at the moment part of Nato forces in Kosovo, have been asked for by Usa who want in fact to employ them to replace some British divisions. A final decision has yet to go through Parliament approval. (007)
