This morning, Russia completely lost contact with the An-24 aircraft, registration RA-47315, operated by Siberian carrier Angara Airlines. The airplane, flight 2G-2311, took off at 11:21 local time from Blagoveshchensk-Ignatyevo airport, where it had made a stopover, and was headed to Tynda airport in the Amur region, both Russian cities. Upon arriving at Tynda, the aircraft failed to land on its first attempt. After going around, the pilot then began a second approach, but contact with air traffic control was lost around 12:58 local time (4 am GMT) while it was just a few kilometers from the airport. According to the ministry of emergencies and the Amur region "Telegram" channel, thanks to search operations by a Mi-8 helicopter, the fuselage of the wreckage was found in flames 16 kilometers from Tynda, on a mountain slope in a rugged, hard-to-reach area.
As reported by the Russian press, emergency services stated regarding the cause of the accident: "There were difficult weather conditions in the crash area: low cloud cover, a wet runway with minimal grip. The plane failed to land on the first attempt and attempted another. During the latter attempt, the crew may have made a mistake or there may have been a technical failure. All these hypotheses are being investigated".
According to what the governor of the Amur region, Vasily Orlov, wrote on his Telegram channel, "According to preliminary data, there were 43 passengers (including 5 children) and 6 crewmembers on board the plane. All necessary forces and resources were used to search for the wreckage". Rescuers reported that no survivors were found.
The Antonov An-24 is a twin-engine, high-wing turboprop transport aircraft built by the Soviet design bureau Okb (Opytnoe konstruktorskoe bjuro) headed by Oleg Antonov, and developed in the Soviet Union in the 1960s. It was later used as a civil aircraft.
