On February 19, 1911, was the day when the first plane, piloted by Commander Umberto Cagno, flew over Venice. This episode is related to desire of the owners of the Excelsior hotel to surprise their guests.That is indeed the first winter season in which the hotel, inaugurated in 1908, remained open.
