Fires in Israel: two Italian Canadair aircraft take off
Critical situation monitored by Italy. Conte decides intervention
The Italian President of the Council of Ministers, Giuseppe Conte, in agreement with the Department of Civil Defence and the Department of Fire Brigades, ordered the sending of two Canadair CL-415 aircraft, to face the vast fires that are affecting the central area of the State of Israel, a few kilometers from the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The violent forest fires, which led to the preventive evacuation of over 3,500 people, were already closely followed by Italian country in close contact with the Israeli authorities.
The airplanes left this morning from Rome-Ciampino airport upon request by the local government, as part of the Voluntary Pool of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, an instrument of the European Union created to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies that occur on a territory inside or outside the Union, through the sharing of resources of all Member States.
To support the pilots, in order to keep the necessary contacts with the local civil protection authorities, there will also be a representative of the Italian Civil Defence Department and one of the National Fire Department.
