Strikes in the UK: Ryanair and BA pilots ask for additional guarantees

While some protests have been cancelled, others persist

While many strikes organized at UK airports have been cancelled (see AVIONEWS), others, such as those confirmed today by pilots Ryanair and British Airways are likely to lead to real chaos for some British holidaymakers: several August flights could be deleted. Companies have been given anti-union behavior: workers' demands concern pensions, maternity benefits and the need for a "transparent and coherent wage structure" in addition to the cuts planned for next Autumn that would involve more than 900 employees. The protest action is a decision that comes after years of refusing to sign agreements. Both strikes were set by the British Airline Pilots Association (BAPA) autonomous union between August 22 and 23 and between September 2 and 4.
