Ed Bastian (Delta's CEO): "I didn't meet Trump for a family vacation"

The absence at the White House meeting irritated the US president

The President Donald Trump met in July the main US companies at the White House. A meeting called for by US carriers United, American Airlines and Delta to demand action in response to what they say is unfair competitive practices of Middle Eastern companies (including Qatar Airways) on routes between the United States and Europe. The absence of Delta CEO Ed Bastian at the meeting irritated President Trump to the point that it would seem that the meeting was very heated and characterized by "many screams".

On August 5, Bastian, through a video message to Delta's 86,000 employees, provided a justification for his absence: he was on vacation with his family. As he explained in the video: "Unfortunately that meeting was organized at the last minute while I was leaving the country for a vacation. I often sacrificed my commitments with my family for my work with Delta, I wasn't ready to ask to cancel a long planned trip".
