SpaceX: 60 new satellites in orbit today

The constellation to transmit Internet across the Globe

The US space company SpaceX launched today another 60 of its internet satellites from Cape Canaveral, Florida (see AVIONEWS). "Starlink" is the ambitious project of the American firm to create a network of 30,000 satellites for the purpose of transmitting high-speed internet anywhere in the world. The launch also represents the fourth mission for the "Falcon 9" rocket. "Once we reach 1200 satellites, we will have coverage of the entire globe", said chairman Gywnne Shotwell and added: "We aim to launch 60 satellites at a time on alternate weeks to fill the constellation". The founder Elon Musk estimates that "Starlink" could bring in over $ 30 billion in annual profits.

Space Exploration Technologies Corporation is an industry based in Hawthorne, California, USA. It was founded in 2002 with the aim of creating technologies to reduce the costs of access to space and allow the colonization of Mars. It has developed "Falcon" launchers and "Dragon" capsules to supply the International Space Station (ISS). Among the projects also the "Starship-Super Heavy" with the ambition of being the biggest rocket ever, whose launch is scheduled for the beginning of 2020.
