The fires in Australia seen from the aircraft cockpit

Flames and smoke prevent landings - VIDEO

Royal Australian Air Force has released a video showing the difficult conditions of pilots engaged in rescue operations in areas devastated by fires. They write on "Youtube": "Even if our crews are highly qualified and professional, they are not always able to complete the mission on the first attempt due to heavy smoking".

In the first part of the video, the men on board a C-27J "Spartan" aircraft attempt to land in Mallacoota in Victoria, where several civilians are waiting to be evacuated. In the second part, a C-130J "Hercules" with the Fire and Rescue NSW (Australian firefighters) staff tries to reach Merimbula, New South Wales but due to the lack of visibility, unfortunately it was not possible.

The level of emergency for the fires remains very high and the budget devastating: the fire started to spread in September (see AVIONEWS) and since then 24 people and over 500 million animals have died. A new rise in temperatures is expected in the coming days.
