Business air travel crisis: 34 bankruptcies in 2020
Troubled companies are very numerous
Business is business, but air travel to carry it out is now impossible. The alarming situation emerged from the in-depth examination by various economic analysts, according to which the tourism crisis is closely linked to that of business travel. Routes that have been most affected by this situation are those that connect Europe and China, usually able to guarantee a good slice of earnings to airlines.
In 2020, there were 34 bankruptcies by carriers specializing in travel of this type, an impressive number if compared to the previous year (19). Names, among others, are those of Flybe, SunExpress Deutschland, Miami Air and OpenSkies, without forgetting the request for protection from bankruptcy by Virgin Atlantic (see also the article published by AVIONEWS) which surprised even the most optimistic analysts. One can partly "console" oneself by looking at what happened in 2008, in conjunction with the serious global economic crisis: twelve years ago there were 63 airlines of this type that declared bankruptcy, a small consolation if you think about future scenarios.
