Virgin Atlantic criticizes UK over covid management
Carrier already laid off 5,000 people
Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, used no half measures to criticize the UK. As reported in the last hours by the manager during the "Abta Travel Convention", in fact, air transport cannot be left alone, given that in Great Britain one job in ten depends on travel. There were also very specific criticisms regarding the management of the health emergency: "Anyone of us could have done better". The Virgin Atlantic CEO did not like the covid tests that London has been preparing in recent times and which would not guarantee adequate safety for the passengers of the aircraft. Weiss fears that the Christmas air connections could jump, as well as those of Easter 2021 and the following summer.
Chief executive admitted that he was not prepared in the right way to face the current crisis and the consequence was clearly visible in the employment decisions, given that the airline decided to lay off 5,000 employees (read also the article published by AVIONEWS). The routes to United States are complicated due to the restrictions imposed by Washington, while the Caribbean is a bit better. We have not been talking about this company for some time after days that were difficult to say the least due to negotiations with creditors and the real possibility of not having cash on hand in the short term.
