Alitalia, over one billion losses in 2020?

Numbers refer to the "old" carrier

One billion Euros: these are the estimates put in black and white today, Thursday November 5, 2020, by newspaper “Sole 24 Ore” regarding the losses that Alitalia could report during 2020. The year will not end positively for air transport and the carrier cannot be outdone. In fact, according to what the newspaper has calculated, the net losses of the twelve months that will end in not many weeks could even exceed one billion, while in 2019 it had stopped at 600 million euros.

Numbers in question refer to the old Alitalia; However, the other airlines are not doing better: according to what was reported by Iata (International Air Transport Association), in September the sector was more than depressed due to the coronavirus, so much so that the world demand for passengers per kilometer fell by almost 73 percentage points on an annual basis (see AVIONEWS). Furthermore, the minus signs have been much more evident and dramatic as regards international connections than national ones. Meanwhile, the new Alitalia is still looking for an actual seat, given that for the moment it is relying on the temporary one in Via XX Settembre, the address of the Ministry of Economy.
