India will reject agreement on Russian helicopters
880 million euro plan to produce Soviet aircraft locally

The government led by Narendra Modi will not go ahead with the project to build Russian helicopters on Indian soil. The pact, worth 880 million Euros, was due to be signed next week during president Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi. The agreement was part of the plan to modernize the Indian Army's fleet of over 320 obsolete helicopters.
This is what leaks from internal sources of the Indian government, indiscretions relaunched by the economic newspaper "Bloomberg". India signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2015 for 200 Kamov twin-engine helicopters. Of these, 60 aircraft were to be imported from Russia, while the rest were to be manufactured locally under a partnership between Hindustan Aeronautics and Russian Helicopters.
However, the arrangement had very few supporters. The government has decided to increase the production of 100% Made in India armaments. There remains a pressing need to innovate the world's third largest military force, where 70% of the helicopter fleet is 30 years old. For this reason, the New Delhi executive could turn this backward step into the purchase of Russian-made Ka-226T military aircraft.
