MGCS program could expand
A fourth ally to develop Franco-German tank?
The Franco-German program for the development of the future MGCS (Main Ground Combat System) tank could expand. In 2022, in fact, it will enter the second phase of progress in which the work on the Milsa system (Mgcs Industrial Lead System Architecture) that governs all the fictions of this armament will be central.
New players are looking at the project but the participating companies want to maintain a coherence between all systems and subsystems. Following the cooperation agreement signed in April 2020, the first phase of the Milsa system architecture study is entrusted to German (Krauss-Maffei Wegman, Rheinmetall) and French (Nexter, Thales) companies.
According to a report in the French newspaper "La Tribune", Nexter and Rheinmetall are now competing to take the lead in managing the Milsa program. Rheinmetall is aiming to outsource development to its Rheinmetall Electronics subsidiary in Bremen. While France's Nexter would like to outsource it to the Tns Mars joint venture (Thales, Nexter and Safran); an agreement will need to be found.
