Airbus cancels order from Qatar Airways
6.3 billion dollars order for 50 planes; legal battle escalates - VIDEO

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has cancelled an order for 50 A-321neo aircraft placed by Qatar Airways. The deal, signed in December 2017, worth about 6.35 billion dollars at list prices. The decision is the most clear effect of the deteriorating relationship between the two companies after the legal dispute initiated by the Arab airline over the A-350 aircraft paint job.
The two companies are involved in a dispute at the High Court in London regarding the quality of the surface of A-350 widebody aircraft produced by the industry. The company accuses the European manufacturer for the "accelerated degradation of the surface" suffered by 21 aircraft of this model in the fleet (34 A-350/900 airplanes and 19 A-350/1000) for which the Qatari aviation regulator has ordered the grounding.
Meanwhile, Qatar Airways in recent days has released a video showing the alleged damage to the surface of its A-350 widebody aircraft. In the images, paint can be seen peeling off the fuselage bodywork. The airline said that this has caused "serious and legitimate safety issues", as well as significant economic damage.
