Germany upgrades 82 NH-90 military helicopters
They will be equipped with new electronic warfare devices

The German government's defense commission has contracted the technology company Hensoldt, specialized in defense, security and aerospace, to upgrade 82 NH-90 military tactical transport helicopters developed by European manufacturer NHIndustries. It is expected to install the Amps-Mlr (Airborne Missile Protection System with radar warning) electronic warfare system in aircraft of the Bundeswehr, the federal army.
Upgrades include anti-missile sensors (Missile Launch Detection Sensor Block2), passive laser warning devices (Altas-2QB), display platforms (Advanced Control and Display Unit) and countermeasures systems. This initiative is part of the Thor (Tactical Transport Helicopter Operational Revision Programme) defence programme.
After the integration phase, the equipped helicopters will be available starting in 2025. Among the newly acquired capabilities they will be able to detect missiles, lasers and radars and automatically initiate targeted countermeasures, such as decoys for approaching rockets.
