North Korea: biggest missile test since 2017

Published photos of planet Earth allegedly taken by rocket

Some images taken from space and depicting planet Earth, particularly areas of the Korean peninsula and surrounding territory, have been released by North Korean media. According to these, the photographs were taken by a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile. This is the seventh missile test conducted by Pyongyang since the beginning of the new year.

According to the North Korean state news agency "Knca", the missile was launched "with the highest angle of fire from the northwestern area toward the East Sea of Korea, maintaining the safety of neighboring countries". A test carried out to "verify the accuracy" of the rocket, they say.

Seoul reported that the test occurred at 11:52 pm on Sunday, January 30. South Korea and Japan reported that the rocket traveled a distance of about 800 km, reaching an altitude of 2000 kilometers, before landing in the waters off Japan. Experts say at full power and with a standard trajectory, the missile can travel up to 4,000 kilometers.
