ITA Airways: heading towards privatisation
Msc-Lufthansa offer on the table of the Council of Ministers today
Today's Council of Ministers could give the Italian Government the go-ahead for the privatisation of the national airline ITA Airways. In fact, the expression of interest of the maritime group MSC, together with its commercial partner (the German airline Lufthansa), is on the table. The executive is called to examine the procedure for the sale of the public company shares.
At the moment there are various hypotheses. The most probable one is that Rome will approve the Italian-German offer, if not today then at least in a few weeks, through a decree of the President of the Council of Ministers, Mario Draghi, authorising the privatisation. A measure by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which is the sole shareholder, is also not excluded.
Once the Government says start the procedure, the board of ITA Airways will be able to open the data room to MSC, so it can evaluate the confidential documents in order to be able to finalise the purchase offer. The expression of interest has a value of 1.2-1.4 billion Euros.
