"Singapore Airshow": Chinese Comac aircraft on display
Market prospects for the regional ARJ-21 and the long-awaited C-919
At the "Singapore Airshow," the aviation show held in February 15th-18th 2022, aircraft built by the Commercial Aviation Corporation of China (Comac) are on display. These include the ARJ-21 regional aircraft on which the manufacturer is aiming for foreign marketing, and the C-919 which is still under development and is highly anticipated, so much so that there are hundreds of pre-orders.
Comac delivered 66 aircraft of the ARJ-21 type to eight air transport operators since 2009. It is a 90-seat medium- and short-range aircraft. The manufacturer's objective of opening up to the foreign market may soon be achieved thanks to an order for 66 units from the Indonesian regional airline TransNusa for delivery in 2022. In Comac's 2020-2039 market outlook, as the Embraer ERJs are phased out, the ARJ-21/700 will become the main player on Chinese regional routes along with the Bombardier CRJ-900.
As for the Comac C-919 narrow-body aircraft, much has been discussed. Designed to compete with the A-320 and B-737, there is currently a backlog of 303 aircraft ordered by five domestic airlines and nine lessor operators. Market release is expected in 2022.
