New engines for Defiant military helicopter

Lockheed-Honeywell agreement on turboshaft thrusters

US engine and avionics systems company Honeywell Aerospace has been selected as the supplier of new engines for the Defiant military helicopters, the aircraft jointly developed by Lockheed Martin and Boeing as part of the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (Flraa) program on behalf of the US Army.

"We are committed to focusing the U.S. Army's attention on modernization and multi-domain operations. The selection of the latest Honeywell HTS-7500 engine technology for the Defiant is evidence of that commitment. We are thrilled", said the Honeywell's defense and space division business manager, Ricky Freeman.

These are the specifics of the HTS7500 turboshaft engines. The engine, according to the manufacturer's technical specifications, delivers 7000 hp and has a higher power-to-weight ratio than other similar engines in its class: it registers a 42% increase in performance compared to Honeywell's T55 which powers the CH-47 Chinook helicopters. Fuel consumption, on the other hand, is 18% lower.
