Russia-Ukraine: US fears Moscow's atomic bomb

Burns (CIA): "No one should take the threat of nuclear weapons lightly"

The United States believes that, due to the difficulties encountered by the Russian army in the invasion in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin may resort to the use of nuclear weapons, as announced by the Kremlin in recent weeks. This was stated in recent hours by the leadership of the Central Intelligence Agency in a speech at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta.

"In light of the possible desperation of President Putin and the Russian leadership, and the military setbacks they have suffered to date, none of us can take lightly the threat posed by a potential resort to tactical nuclear weapons or low intensity nuclear weapons", said CIA Director William Burns.

"We are obviously very concerned -continues- I know that President Biden is deeply concerned and wants to avoid a third world war, to avoid crossing a threshold beyond which nuclear conflict becomes possible". Although at the moment the United States sees "concrete evidence" of an actual deployment of nuclear weapons.
