EASA on ending mask requirement

"Staff should continue to encourage their use even when not necessary"

The end of the mask-wearing requirement as of Monday, May 16, on board European planes and at European airports requires some clarifications. They were given by the same decision makers who decreed the end of the restrictions: the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (Easa) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (Ecdc).

"Many passengers and flight operators have a desire to travel without them being required to wear a face mask, and we are at the beginning of this process. Staff should continue to encourage the use of face masks, even when not necessary", said Easa Director Patrick Ky.

"For passengers and flight staff, this is a big step forward in normalizing air travel. Travellers must still behave responsibly and respect the choices of others around them. And a passenger who coughs and sneezes should seriously consider wearing a face mask to reassure those seated nearby".
