No masks on aircraft in EU from today

In Italy and Germany, obligation to wear Ffp2 devices remains for domestic connections

End of obligation to use face masks at airports and on board aircraft operating in the territory of the European Union today, May 16. A breakthrough that came in the past few days following the update of travel safety measures ordered by the European Union's Aviation Safety Agency (Easa) and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Ecdc).

In Italy, however, the mandatory use of the devices still applies on domestic routes, as ordered in April by Health Minister Roberto Speranza, who extended until June 15 the requirement to wear the Ffp2 face mask on all long-distance transport, including airplanes.

The mask rules, moreover, will depend on the airline one is travelling with and the country of the airline's destination. For example, a passenger who books a trip to Germany until Sept. 23 will have to wear a face mask on board the aircraft, which must be maintained for the duration of the flight.
