Russia-Ukraine: NATO not at war, helps allies

Von der Leyen: "We must also be able to act in our own defense and intervene if required"

The war between Russia and Ukraine, the role of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the effects on world balances. These are topics that could not miss from the agenda of the World Economic Forum. Leading figures in international politics and economics, intellectuals and journalists meet at the event, which takes place from the 22nd to the 26th in Davos, Switzerland.

"NATO is our greatest ally, but we must also be able to act for our own defense and intervene if required. If we look at the data from the financial crisis to today we see that defense investment has grown in Europe by 20 percent, 60 percent in the United States, 300 percent in Russia and 600 percent in China. We have earmarked 200 billion in defense capabilities and these investments will be coordinated so that we do not have 27 different tanks but one or two interoperable models", said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

Meanwhile, in his speech in Davos, Atlantic Alliance Secretary Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that "NATO will not go to war in Ukraine", while standing ready to defend its members in case of aggression. "Russia should not even think about attacking our allies because we will intervene without a doubt. If Russia knows that we will intervene in defense of our allies, it will not attack. And this is the best way to protect peace".
