Tap Portugal airline towards privatization
Talks started months ago: Air France-KLM and Lufthansa in the race
Air France-KLM and Lufthansa aircraft groups are competing to take over 50% of the Portuguese national airline Tap Air Portugal. The negotiation is coordinated by the Lusitanian government which wants to start the re-privatization of the airline by the end of the year, keeping the airport hub in Lisbon.
This is what the "Agence France-Presse" (Afp) reports citing local media, including "Expresso", which relaunching an unidentified government source, speak of the sale of "at least half of the airline's capital" starting from this year to conclude the privatization process at the beginning of 2023". Talks between the executive, financial advisors and airline management have been going on for months.
The negotiations on the privatization of the Tap Portugal airline with the Lufthansa airline group had already started in 2019, but the negotiations had stalled due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Even then, the Portuguese government announced its intention to sell at least 50% of Tap by 2025.
