Spain: summer 2023 higher than 2019

The busiest markets will be Italy and France with an increase of +10%

The Iberian airport management company Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (Aena), which controls more than 40 airports throughout Spain, said that the total number of seats scheduled by the companies at its airports for the Summer 2023 season (from March 26 to October 28) will be 4.4% higher than in 2019.

"Airlines have scheduled 221.8 million seats and nearly 1.3 million commercial operations at Aena's airport network for the Summer season". The association is offering economic incentives to airlines to encourage "new routes to unserved destinations, growth on routes to airports with fewer than three million passengers, and growth on routes to Asia", Aena said in a statement.

The summer 2023 flight schedule in the Aena airport network foresees a total of 2950 scheduled routes, 39 more than in 2019. The busiest markets will be Italy and France, which will mark an increase of +10%. However, the main Iberian airports of Madrid-Barajas (44.5 million seats) and Barcelona-El Prat (37.2 million) will have an expected performance lower than in 2019: respectively 99% and 93% of the seats offered in 2019.
