Poland will purchase American Patriot systems

Pentagon unveils agreement to buy and sell missile launchers

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (Dsca) of the United States Department of Defense communicated that Poland will buy American Patriot anti-aircraft defense systems. The sale will have a value of 15 billion dollars and provides for the purchase of radars and up to 48 PAC-3 launchers and 644 missiles. The State Department has already approved the export of the weapon system.

"The sale, as proposed, will enhance Poland's missile defense capabilities and contribute to Poland's goals of upgrading its capabilities, as well as promoting interoperability with the United States and other allies", the Pentagon agency said in a note.

The MIM-104 Patriot is a tactical anti-aircraft defense system produced by the American companies Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. The armament consists of launch vehicles, surface-to-air missiles and radar for remote guidance towards the target. These are systems capable of operating also against missiles (including ballistic and hypersonic) and high-speed aircraft.
