Türkiye strengthens firefighting aircraft fleet

Among the new features: TAI T-70 helicopters and Air Tractor AT-802 amphibious planes

In the past few hours, the Turkish Government has illustrated the mechanism of the 2023 firefighting campaign. As regards the intervention of extinguishing from the sky, the fleet has 21 aircraft, 94 helicopters and 8 drones; to these are added 25,000 firefighters and about 120,000 volunteers. Ankara's goal is to protect the inestimable value of the Middle Eastern country's forests and woodlands.

"Based on our past experiences, we have further strengthened our fire response capacity this year. We want to have a summer without incidents caused by fires", explained President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan .

In detail, the president spoke of some innovations compared to last year: the use of 3 new T-70 helicopters built by the national company Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI); the entry into service of the first 4 Air Tractor AT-802 amphibious aircraft (the rest of the 16 model aircraft will join the fleet of the General Directorate of Forests within the next three years). There were also 4,799 land vehicles, including off-road vehicles, tractors and emergency vehicles. Among the reserve forces 31 helicopters, two planes and two drones of the defense ministry.
