A 73 years old Egyptian entrepreneur has died; details of the second person on board still unknown

A victim has been identified from the aircraft crash that occurred yesterday, 10 October, in which a Bell 206B JetRanger III helicopter (registration T7-HZM) with two people on board, one of German nationality and one Egyptian, crashed in the Ferrara area, sinking into a basin of water in the locality of Settepolesini, in the municipality of Bondeno, in Italy. The details of the second person on board have not been released yet.

The one who lost his life was Hazem Bayumi, 73 years old, an entrepreneur from Bologna of Egyptian origins, who was at the controls of the aircraft. According to local media reports, the man was a great flying enthusiast and an expert pilot and for this reason he had recently purchased the Bell 206B helicopter.

According to initial reconstructions of the accident, the aircraft had taken off from an airfield or a private facility in Ozzano, in the Bologna area. Witnesses heard a bang, as if there had been "an explosion in flight", they report, before seeing part of the aircraft crash into the water around 11:00 yesterday morning. The identity of the passenger will be known once the body has been recovered and identified.
