"ITA-Lufthansa pact will be good for Fiumicino"

The words of Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma company

The agreement between the German group Lufthansa and the Italian flag carrier ITA Airways will bring notable developments to the "Leonardo Da Vinci" airport in Rome-Fiumicino. The leaders of the management company Aeroporti di Roma (AdR) are convinced of this. At the moment the documents of the airline privatization are being examined by the European Competition Commission, which is expected to express an opinion by mid-January 2024.

"This is a project of great industrial value and I hope that it will see the light at the beginning of next year. The agreement does not cause major concerns in terms of concentration and also has a great value in terms of stabilization and development of the Italian transport system", said Marco Troncone, CEO of AdR, interviewed by the Italian newspaper "il Corriere della Sera".

"Having a national reference carrier -concluded the manager- which is always unstable is a problem. And then Lufthansa pays attention and respect to the specificities and recognisability of the carriers it acquires: the Italian character will be saved. The group also has a capacity to move as a system with intermodality: it is well integrated with Deutsche Bahn and we are focusing a lot on rail-air connectivity with Ferrovie dello Stato".
