Italian Government will cut funding to ministries

Transport Department have to save 553 million euros in the three-year period

The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), led by Giancarlo Giorgetti, has asked for a cut of 6.8 billion euros over three years (2.02 in 2024, another 2.4 in 2025, almost 2.5 in 2026) to rationalize the costs of the state machinery. These are the departments most affected: Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) led by Matteo Salvini, Defense by Guido Crosetto, as well as Interior by Matteo Piantedosi and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Maeci) by Antonio Tajani .

The aim is to reduce public spending. These are the details: in the next three years the Italian Minister of Transport will have to cut 553 million euros (out of an available budget of around 20 billion) of which 151.7 million less in 2024, then 192 million in 2025 and finally 210 million in 2026.

The cut also hits the Defense Ministry, which will have to save 506 million euros (out of a budget of 29 billion): in 2024 it will have to cut 137 million, then 171 in 2025 and almost 200 million the following year. The Ministry of the Interior will have to reduce spending by 418 million euros. For Foreign Affairs 433 million in the three-year period (130 million in 2024, then 150 in 2025 and the same in 2026). Finally 264 million to the Minister of Business and Made in Italy (Mimit) led by Adolfo Urso.
