Boom in airline orders in 2023

Which and how many aircraft bought by airlines in the world

The 2023 was a record year for the number of new aircraft ordered. In the previous 12 months the global air transport sector has in fact reached an operational capacity almost similar to that of 2019. Thus, in order to adequately respond to the high demand for travel from passengers, companies have purchased more modern and less expensive planes from maintenance point of view of fuel consumption.

This is the ranking of airlines that have purchased more than 100 aircraft: in first position is the Indian low-cost IndiGo which last year ordered 500 A-320s, the largest order in the history of aviation. In second position is the national airline Air India with 470 aircraft (220 Boeing and 250 Airbus). In third place is the American Southwest Airlines with 156 Boeings. Emirates follows with 156 planes ordered, the Irish Ryanair with 150, United Airlines with 110 aircraft.
