Firefighting plane crashes on cars in Chile

Pilot killed while fighting a fire on Ruta 5 - VIDEO

A Trush S-2R/T660 firefighting plane (registration EC-NPL) crashed in recent hours in Chile on the Ruta 5 highway, near Panguilemo airport. The Corporación Nacional Forestal (Conaf) reported that the aircraft was engaged in putting out the flames of a fire that broke out in Talca, in the central part of the country. Pilot Fernando Solans lost his life and three other people were injured in the accident.

According to an initial reconstruction of the accident, the aircraft would have hit a light pole and at that point the pilot would have lost control of the Trush aircraft, owned by the Air Andes company. The plane subsequently crashed into the ground, hitting a car and catching fire. The pilot died on impact. Several other people on the ground were injured.
