ITA Airways: two managers reinstated

Head of Legal Affairs and External Relations suspended in October 2022

Two top managers of the national carrier ITA Airways have been reinstated. They were fired in 2022 when the management was in the hands of the executive president Alfredo Altavilla and the CEO Fabio Lazzerini. The first section of the Labor Court of Rome ordered the reinstatement in recent days, with a sentence signed by judge Ida Cristina Pangia.

The first of the reinstated managers is the lawyer Filippo Corsi, who held the position of head of ITA's Legal Affairs, while the other manager is Davide D'Amico, head of External Relations. In October 2022 the board of directors had revoked the powers of President Altavilla, attributed to Lazzerini. Then the two workers, close to Altavilla, had been removed due to lack of "fiduciary bond" with the company. The two had appealed, reporting that the contents of their email had been accessed illegally and for "retaliatory and discriminatory reasons". The judge ruled in their favor.

The two managers were suspended on 23 October 2022 as a precautionary measure with a letter signed by Lazzerini. Manager Corsi was then fired on 9 November 2022, accused of having participated in the drafting of journalistic texts aimed "at denigrating corporate governance roles". D'Amico was fired on October 28, 2022 on the same charge. Alleged conduct which, according to the judge, ITA discovered in violation of the privacy of the two workers, therefore declaring the dismissal, re-hiring, payment of back wages, bonuses and other emoluments.
