Elba Airport (Tuscany) dreams of air taxis

New stopover management company which will have a board with three members

The management of the company Toscana Aeroporti, which controls the Italian "Amerigo Vespucci" airport of Florence-Peretola and the "Galileo Galilei" of Pisa-San Giusto, as well as the Marina di Campo (Elba) stopover, has made it known that the in the near future, the island's airport could be an important hub for the passenger transport service via air taxi.

"The evolution of the machines could also guarantee flights with the current runway, thanks to the use of vertical take-off passenger drones. We are already carrying out studies and experiments to connect Pisa and Florence and then we will move on to extending it between Pisa and Elba too", said Roberto Naldi, CEO of Toscana Aeroporti.

If this were the case, it would be a historic turning point for the Elba airport, which could be home to a vertiport and related services to accommodate the flight of Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft (Vtol). Meanwhile, the new management company of the Elba airport is taking shape (controlled by Toscana Aeroporti) which will have a board of directors with three members, with Elba also represented with president Maurizio Serini.
