Two-day strike by Air France pilots

Mobilization called for 15 and 16 April

The Syndicat des Pilotes d'Air France (Spaf), which represents a significant part of the pilots of the national carrier Air France, has called a sector strike for Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 April 2024. It is a move which will potentially create significant disruption not only to the airline's operations, but will potentially affect tens of thousands of travellers, causing canceled and delayed flights globally.

"We ask for the pure and simple withdrawal of this text of the law or at least the exclusion of flight personnel from this legislation", reads a statement from the French union, whose protest is attributable to a proposed law that aims to limit the right of strike in the transport sector. The text of the law will arrive in the Senate for discussion next Tuesday 9 April 2024.

The strike is also linked to a series of ongoing contractual disputes between the airline's management and its pilots over issues such as pay, working conditions, concerns related to the airline's new business strategy and operational decisions. At the moment the contract negotiations seem to be at a standstill, so the union has called for an agitation.
