SAS will join SkyTeam

The transition will take place in September after leaving Star Alliance

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced that on 31 August 2024 it will leave the Star Alliance, the alliance of airlines among the largest in the world, to join SkyTeam on 1 September 2024. It is a move following the partial acquisition of the Northern European airline by the Air France-KLM Group, which is part of the SkyTeam organisation.

The US bankruptcy court in New York had finally approved the rescue of the air carrier Scandinavian Airlines, which operates as the national carrier in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, last Tuesday, March 19, 2024. The corporate reorganization plan, which is expected to end mid-year , will be carried forward by the new buyers: the Franco-Dutch Air France-KLM Group, the Castlelake investment fund, the Danish government and the entrepreneur Henrik Lind.

Regarding the transition from Star Alliance to SkyTeam, the Scandinavian airline has guaranteed that all the benefits provided by the "Sas EuroBonus" program reserved for Frequent Flyers will remain in force until the end of August 2024. Starting from September the majority of SkyTeam members, with whom the Scandinavian airline is already in talks to establish commercial partnerships, will recognize these benefits.
