Lugano Airport: new COO arrives

The management company's aim is to revive the infrastructure

The Swiss Lugano-Agno airport has a new Chief Operating Officer. This is Christian Castelli, who will already work alongside the director general Davide Pedrioli in the coming months, who will thus be relieved of commitments and concentrated on strategic issues. The objective of the management company of the stopover in the canton of Ticino is to relaunch the operation of the infrastructure which today only offers air taxi services, charter flights and flight schools.

Castelli was born in 1973 in Grenchen and raised in Sonvico. He graduated in 2001 in economics of public administrations and international institutions at the "Bocconi" University of Milan. In 2006 he obtained a master's degree in Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School. He has gained twenty years of managerial experience at the United Nations, holding positions of responsibility in international missions.

The municipality of Lugano, which controls the management company Lugano Airport, had started the search for this professional figure in November 2023. The "City Airport is able to offer personalized services to all needs, with great attention to passengers", explains the company, which is now looking to the future and new challenges. In fact, since 2019, following the abandonment of the company Swiss Air, has no longer had scheduled flights.
