Rome: the 2025 Global Tourism Summit
Meloni: "Create new air, rail, and sea connections". AVIONEWS present at the event

This year, Italy will host one of the most important events for international tourism, the 25th edition of the "Global Summit 2025". Rome is championing Italian culture and craftsmanship in a global context: from September 28th to 30th, the Auditorium Parco della Musica will become a place of discussion and exchange for delegations from various countries, gathered to identify opportunities for mutual support and strengthening public-private partnerships. The event is organized by the World Travel & Tourism Council, a forum for the travel and tourism industry, together with the ministry of tourism, Enit Spa (see AVIONEWS), the Lazio region, and the municipality of Rome. Various panels will be held throughout the summit, including transportation, a key and decisive factor in the arrival of thousands of travelers who choose Italy as their destination each year.
The event, which was opened by the Carabinieri band and maestro Andrea Bocelli who sang the Italian national anthem, was inaugurated by prime minister Giorgia Meloni, minister of tourism Daniela Santanchè and mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
As Meloni stated in her speech, tourism is "one of the most dynamic industries in the world" and is a "strategic sector for the Italian economy" as it "creates jobs, attracts investment, and is an extraordinary generator of wealth". The prime minister then emphasized the importance of providing tourists with the best travel options: it is necessary to "create new connections by air, rail, and sea" and "invest in digitalization, Wi-Fi connectivity for ports" to improve the exchange of information essential for providing travelers with a complete experience. Italian tourism "is looking to the innovations of the cruise industry" and "rail services", Meloni said. "All this thanks to the resourcefulness of entrepreneurs" she added. Investing in technology, artificial intelligence, and digitalization is key to improving transportation, Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri also stated. According to the mayor, the capital's municipal administration is moving in this direction, for example through the development of the virtual assistant, "Julia", designed to help tourists and residents explore the city by providing real-time information on transportation, events, museums, and restaurants. Finally, Santanchè described tourism as "a bridge between peoples", "a bridge of peace", important for sharing a forward-looking vision centered on international relations. She particularly emphasized the need for synergy between the public and private sectors and the role of businesses, which, according to the minister, the government intends to support in the development of tourism.
