Tomorrow in Rome the GIAF, German-Italian Aerospace Forum 2025

Italian-German aerospace alliance promotes European technological leadership

From mobility to climate protection, to healthcare assistance: the aerospace sector today influences almost every aspect of social life and provides core technologies for progress and global connectivity. According to forecasts by ESA (European Space Agency) and Roland Berger, the space economy will reach globally around €2 trillion by 2040, with growth of 9.3% compared with 2024.

In a highly competitive context, Germany and Italy, as founding members of ESA, are joining forces to strengthen the sector's positioning at the European level. Bilateral cooperation promotes innovation, cutting-edge technologies and projects in launch systems, satellite infrastructures, Earth observation and space communications. Politically, the collaboration is supported by the Italian-German Action Plan signed in 2023, by the ESA Council of Ministers 2025 in Bremen and by European programmes such as IRIS and Govstatcom. Furthermore, according to estimates shared at European level, contributions to ESA from both countries will increase: for the period 2026–2028, Germany plans to invest over €5 billion, while Italy's share will reach €4 billion.

The German-Italian Aerospace Forum 2025 represents a platform for international dialogue in the sector. Tomorrow in Rome important representatives from industry, research and the institutions of both countries will meet to discuss concrete solutions and collaboration opportunities aimed at strengthening Europe’s role in the technological development of the sector.

Companies such as Avio, Leonardo, Rheinmetall, Persico Group and OHB System will present concrete projects in NewSpace technologies and data infrastructures to support the development of the aerospace sector, as well as concrete examples of collaboration between the two countries.

For Europe’s airports, communities and economy

Importantly, there is no tangible evidence that the EU Qatar agreement has resulted in Qatar Airways gaining a dominant or unfair market position at the expense of European airlines. In fact, Qatar Airways has not expanded significantly in the European market in recent years –as evidenced by the fact that the airline’s seat capacity deployed in Europe in the current IATA Winter season (October 2025–March 2026) remains -10% below its pre-pandemic (2019) level more
