Aeroporti di Puglia: three new routes inaugurated from Bari towards the East
Armenia, Moldova and North Macedonia debut in the Apulian network
Wizz Air and Aeroporti di Puglia (AdP) celebrated an unprecedented expansion of services from Bari "Karol Wojtyla" Airport with the first flight of three new international routes: Erevan (Armenia), Chișinău (Moldova) and Skopje (North Macedonia). This triple inauguration, which underlines Puglia’s importance in the airline’s growth strategies, turns Bari into a true strategic hub for the Mediterranean area. The route to Erevan was inaugurated on October 26 and operates with two weekly frequencies (Wednesday and Sunday). Today it was the turn of the flights to Chișinău, operated three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), and to Skopje, operated twice per week (Monday and Friday). All routes are operated by A-321neo aircraft.
The launch of these routes does not only meet tourist flows, but also significantly responds to VFR trips (Visiting Friends and relatives), strengthening the deep ties between the communities present in Puglia and their countries of origin. Wizz Air’s commitment in Bari is reflected in steady growth and high-quality operational results. Between January and October 2025, the carrier operated over 3,800 flights with more than 756,000 passengers.
Antonio Maria Vasile, president of Aeroporti di Puglia (AdP), states: “The start of routes to Yerevan, Skopje and Chisinau represents a further step in the growth and internationalisation path of our airport system. These connections reinforce Puglia’s role as a natural bridge between Europe and the Balkan and Caucasus areas, fostering cultural, tourist and economic exchanges of ambitious value. Aeroporti di Puglia thus confirms its commitment to offering new opportunities for connection and development for the territory and for the entire Apulian community. With these initiatives we reiterate our commitment to strengthening connectivity, to promoting the de-seasonalization of tourism and to supporting local businesses. I thank the Region of Puglia, the airlines that continue to believe and invest in our network and all the communities involved that constantly show us their trust. We work with determination to give our territory opportunities for growth even beyond traditional routes”.
Currently, Wizz Air operates 12 routes to 8 countries from Bari, with a load factor of 90.1%, offering over 1.1 million seats in 2025 alone and consolidating its position as the second carrier by market share (11.6%) at the airport.
Bari’s network already includes Tirana, Sofia, Budapest, Warsaw-"Chopin", Wrocław, Bucharest-Băneasa, Bucharest-Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova and Timișoara, and now expands with Erevan, Chișinău and Skopje. With these new connections, the airline confirms its firm intention to further strengthen its presence in Southern Italy, with particular attention to Puglia, a strategic region for connectivity and demand.
The current offering from Bari "Karol Wojtyla" airport allows Apulian passengers to reach the main destinations of Eastern and Central Europe – including Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Poland, Romania and Hungary – further expanding the region’s internationalisation process toward new and rich destinations.
In this context, Italy confirms its position as the airline’s top market by number of passengers carried across the carrier’s entire international network, with nearly 77,000 flights to and from Italy in 2025 alone, over 245 active routes in 32 countries and more than 17.1 million passengers carried (+9% compared to the same period in 2024). Currently, the carrier operates at 27 Italian airports and has 27 aircraft based across 5 bases on national territory.
